multiCAM Systems’ integrated video production systems such as CONF and TRACKING are used worldwide in corporate, education and other AV environments to capture, record and/or stream live presentations, lectures and events. The open design of each system, as well as MULTICAM RADIO for Visual Radio broadcasting applications, ensures interoperability with most leading PTZ cameras today, including models from Canon, Lumens, Marshall, Panasonic, PTZOptics and Sony.
While customers will still enjoy that freedom of camera choice, multiCAM Systems is bringing the 1080p camera to market with several goals in mind to reduce costs and complexity for integrators and end users. This includesplanning a transition to IP that first allows customers to take advantage of existing SDI infrastructure; and accelerating integration times to get users up and running with their systems quicker.
“While IP is the end game for virtually all of our customers, many facilities that have consistently invested in and updated their SDI infrastructure are not necessarily in a rush to convert to pure IP,” said Stan Walbert, CEO, multiCAM Systems. “Furthermore, the lives of systems integrators are simplified when they aren’t forced into an either-or situation. mCam cameras will allow our customers to leverage their existing SDI cabling as long as they please, and even operate in a hybrid SDI and IP mode by using our IP interface to manage camera feeds and PTZ control over the network as desired.”
mCam cameras are built to make that switch between the two environments as painless as possible, supporting high color reproduction and pristine 1080p image quality in both SDI and IP. The design features rear 3G HD-SDI connections, as well an RJ-45 Ethernet jack for video signal control over the network. Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability is enabled when integrated with a standard switch.
“A facility with Cat6 jacks on the wall can very easily run power from the central equipment room or an IT closet using the existing Cat6 infrastructure, for example, mount and plug in the cameras, and everything they need for live production is supplied over the network,” said Paul Stewart, director of business development, North America, multiCAM Systems. “This is very useful in a situation where the end user desires a more flexible configuration requiring cameras that can be moved from room to room. It’s a very simple IP setup that eliminates the need to deal with switching SDI feeds and challenges of operating over a network.”
To expedite delivery and integration times, mCam cameras are automatically flashed with the appropriate firmware before shipping. This removes several configuration steps, which means customers can technically be operational within an hour of unboxing if the supporting SDI or IP infrastructure is in place.
“This is another way of how we are reducing labor and operational delays for integrators and end users,” said Walbert. “In addition to removing the need for expensive external equipment for operating in SDI and/or IP, automatic flashing means that users essentially just need to add a mouse and a keyboard to complete the setup. All of this means we can very quickly drop-ship mCam orders built to the customer’s specifications.”
mCam cameras can operate in manual, automated or hybrid mode, and provides users with an intuitive way to easily program presets for specific shots. The design includes a hardware joystick and is interoperable with virtual joysticks built into the multiCAM Systems’ integrated production systems, both of which allows users to manipulate pan, tile, zoom, focus, white balance, exposure and similar movements and settings.
